Pattie BoydWhen Handheld secured the rights to Pattie Boyd's best selling autobiography we immediately set to work on creating a cutting edge enhanced iBook. Pattie had a vast array of fascinating letters, drawings, photographs and other memorabilia locked away in a box. Her collection included never before seen personal letters and postcards from George Harrison to his wife as he toured with The Beatles, childlike Christmas cards drawn by George and a letter he wrote to Pattie whilst he was in New York recording the Concert for Bangladesh in which he made references to the on-going fall out from the breakup of The Beatles. Pattie still had the original, now legendary, 'Layla letters', written to her by Eric Clapton as he attempted to lure her away from George and drawings by Eric which showed his under exploited talent as an artist.
The challenge for Handheld was how to present these in a way which brought the content to life. The result was a pioneering iBook, using innovative creative and technical techniques ahead of its time, when it was launched in Spring 2011.
We then used our media relationships to instigate PR and marketing plans to ensure maximum exposure for the iBook and arranged a major feature in The Sunday Times Magazine. Handheld has a strong relationship with Apple who arranged a second UK national media promotion with The Telegraph.
Handheld is now working with award winning movie producers, Cinemanx,(Miss Potter, Stormbreaker, Albatross, Closer to the Edge....) on a new movie about the extraordinary story of Pattie Boyd.
